American reality TV star Kim Kardashian has sparked a new row over Heathrow baggage handlers after she accused British Airways workers of stealing 'irreplaceable' items from her luggage after a recent flight.
She says staff at the airport, which is already facing claims it will struggle to cope with the surge in passengers during the Olympics,may have taken several handbags and 'priceless' sunglasses she inherited from her late father.
The allegations spark new fears that security at Heathrow may be returning to the lax levels last seen in the 1980s when it was nicknamed Thiefrow due to its reputation for high rates of luggage theft.

The reality star, who is back in Los Angeles after a whistle-stop promotional tour of London, and then a week at the Cannes International Film Festival, is now said to have approached BA to look into the apparent theft by analysing CCTV footage.
She arrived at Heathrow on May 16, spent nine days travelling before returning home on May 25.
It is understood that she may take the matter to the police if the airline do not provide a satisfactory response.
British Airways, which celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2009, is expecting to have one of its busiest summer ever as the main airliner carrying visitors to the Olympics.
Heathrow, which will handle 80 per cent of Games traffic, is - at peak traffic - expected to handle up to 50,000 extra bags a day as it deals with an additional 600,000 passengers during the course of the sporting spectacle.
Last week staff successfully carried out a dry run in practice for the Olympics when the processed 3,000 extra bags an hour.

'Our customer travelled from Nice to Heathrow Terminal 5 to Los Angeles.
'Terminal 5 has some of the most sophisticated automated baggage systems in the world, which are able to monitor bags every minute of their time in the terminal.
'At this stage, we have discovered no evidence to suggest that the bag in question was interfered with at Heathrow.
'Our investigation is also seeking to establish details of the bag's passage through Nice and Los Angeles airports.'
A spokesman for BAA, the owners of Heathrow, said: ‘There are high levels of security at Heathrow. Passenger bags are electronically tracked and recorded throughout the system.’

When Kim arrived home from France Friday night, she noticed her luggage was significantly lighter than when she left.  A search inside the suitcase quickly revealed the thieves made off with a pair of vintage sunglasses her dad, Robert Kardashian, gave her just before he died -- sunglasses she only wore on very special occasions.

And there's even more thievery. Kim is telling friends the baggage bandits made off with several extremely expensive purses and Tumi luggage.

Kim tweeted after the incident, writing, ""Very disappointed in British Airways for opening my luggage & taking some special items of mine! Some things are sentimental & not replaceable."

We're told Kim has already filed a report with the airline, demanding they produce surveillance catching the culprits in the act.

If the airline doesn't fork over the footage, we're told Kim's going to the cops.

According to sources, Brooke entered the undisclosed in-patient treatment facility a few weeks ago, following a puzzling visit to Charlie.

A source close to Charlie tells TMZ, Brooke recently came to his L.A. home and seemed out of it -- so much so Charlie felt she needed to be checked out by an addiction specialist.

We're told Brooke left before Charlie had a chance to get her examined by a professional. Brooke then decided to seek out substance abuse treatment on her own -- it's unclear why.

Brooke previously entered rehab earlier this year following her December cocaine arrest in Aspen.

On a recent re-run of Jeopardy, the question was asked: ‘How many steps does the guard take during his walk across the Tomb of the Unknowns?

I certainly didn’t know the answer, didn’t even know there was a specific number, and it made me think back to when I was privileged to watch the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and it’s a very solemn and stirring sight.  A uniformed officer explained the meaning to the gathered crowd and exactly what is going to happen.  He explains that everyone is expected to remain silent and not speak during the exchange which takes a very short time considering what an important event it is.  Filming was allowed and I captured the event with my Kodak 8 mm.  The film still exists, old as it is.

On March 25, 1926 orders were sent down directing the formation of an armed military guard at the Tomb, during daylight hours because visitors to the cemetery were using the original crypt as a picnic table.

On July 2, 1937, the guard was increased in size, and ordered to begin 24 hour shifts.

Here are some facts I’m certain hardly anyone knows and after learning them, you may have more than a little respect for the men chosen for this patriotic task.

The guard takes 21 steps during his walk in front of the tomb.  This alludes to the 21-gun salute, the highest honor given any military or foreign dignitary.  Before his about face to begin his return walk, he hesitates 21 seconds, for the same reason.

His gloves are wet, moistened to prevent his losing his grip on his rifle.  He carries the rifle on the shoulder away from the tomb except when he executes the about-face. Then he moves it to the outside shoulder.

Guards are changed every 2 hours, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, since 1930.

REQUIREMENTS FOR BEING A GUARD (called the Sentinel)

He must be at least 22 and have the rank of Private First Class through Specialist

He must be between 5’10” and 6’2”; his waist size must not exceed 30”.  There are three Reliefs (divided into heights) and one can tell the time by which the height of the Relief is working:

1st Relief              6'2" to 6'4"

2nd Relief             6' to 6'2"

3rd Relief             5'11" to 6'

For 2 years, he will live in a barracks under the tomb and cannot drink any alcohol on or off duty for the rest of his life. For the first six months, a guard isn’t allowed to speak to anyone or watch TV. In off-duty hours, the guard spends his time memorizing the 175 notable people buried in Arlington Cemetery.

He cannot swear in public for the rest of his life and cannot disgrace the uniform or tomb by any word or action.

After 2 years, he is given a wreath lapel pen.  A guard must obey the above rules for the rest of his life or give up his pin.

The uniform must have no wrinkled, folds, or link.  Shoes are specially-made with thick soles to keep heat in and cold out. They have metal heel plates extending to the top of the shoe to make the loud click as they come to a halt.  Guards dress in front of a full-length mirror.  Every guard spends 5 hours a day getting ready for guard duty.

Even during Hurricane Isabelle in 2002, when guards were permission to leave the tomb, they respectfully refused and continued to perform the highest honor given to service personnel.

 Michelle Obama and her girls had a date with Beyoncé on Saturday.

The First Lady and daughters Sasha, 10, and Malia, 13, were spotted cheering on the superstar during the second night of her concert series at Atlantic City's Revel Resorts, according to an AP report.

The youngest Obamas were animated and cheered during the show, and even sang along to "Love on Top," according to the report.

Before Saturday's show, Sasha and Malia were spotted splashing around the resort's pool. When the First Lady and her daughters arrived at the Revel Resorts cabana area – flanked by secret service officers – a white curtain was drawn to give them some privacy.

The First Lady and Beyoncé have a special connection, having worked together on Obama's Let's Move campaign. And in PEOPLE's latest issue, the First Lady says if she could be anyone else, she would be the pop star.

"If I had some gift, I’d be Beyoncé," Obama said. "I'd be some great singer."

And it was a ladies' only weekend in Atlantic City. On Saturday, President Obama was golfing outside of Washington, D.C.

Phillip Phillips Under the Knife on Tuesday

"American Idol" winner Phillip Phillips will get badly-needed surgery for a bum kidney on Tuesday, and he'll be recuperating in style in a swanky Malibu mansion ... TMZ has learned.

As we first reported, Phillip endured immense pain during the entire competition ... the result of a congenital kidney stone problem that has already resulted in 8 surgeries.  He's been living with kidney stones that are so big they can't pass through his system.


Doctors inserted a stent into Phillip's kidney 7 weeks ago, as a temporary fix, but the pain borders on unbearable.  In fact, when Phillip went home to Georgia a week ago, his doctor urged him to throw in the towel and get the surgery immediately, but Phillip said no.

So we've learned the surgery will take place Tuesday afternoon.

Phillip's recovery is expected to take weeks -- as many as 6.  But here's the good news.  A honcho from the "A.I." production company has offered his home to Phillip and his parents for the entire recovery.

Pedro Hernandez Charged with the Murder of Etan Patz

 The man who allegedly came forward to admit killing 6-year-old Etan Patz 33 years ago has been officially charged.

Pedro Hernandez was charged with murder in the second degree on Friday, according to a press release from the Manhattan District Attorney's office.

"This is the beginning of the legal process, not the end," D.A. Cyrus R. Vance, Jr., says in a statement. "There is much investigative and other work ahead, and it will be conducted in a measured and careful manner. I want to thank our partners in law enforcement, particularly the NYPD and the FBI, for their unparalleled perseverance over the last three decades."

Patz was on his way to school when he was allegedly taken and strangled to death in New York in 1979.

Friday marked the anniversary of President Reagan's naming May 25 – the day Etan vanished – National Missing Children's Day. Etan was the first missing child to appear on a milk carton, and a national campaign was launched.

An 18-year-old gunman killed two people and wounded seven others after going on a shooting rampage in Finland, police said today.
Officers arrested the suspect wearing camouflage clothing, near Hyvinkaa, some five hours after he fired several shots from a low rooftop at people gathered outside a restaurant.
The man, from Hyvinkaa, a town around 30 miles north of capital Helsinki, opened fire just before 2am this morning, Detective Chief Inspector Markku Tuominen said, adding that police knew of no possible motive pending an investigation.

Shootings are not uncommon in Finland where there are 650,000 officially recognised gun owners in a population of 5.4 million people, with strong hunting traditions.
In recent years, Finland also has seen two deadly school shootings.
In 2008, a culinary student killed nine fellow students and a teacher before shooting himself at a vocational school in the western town of Kauhajoki.
A year earlier, an 18-year-old killed six fellow students, a nurse and the principal at a high school in Tuusula, southern Finland.
Two months ago, a 23-year-old gunman wounded the father of his former girlfriend in an office building before firing several shots through a classroom door in southern Finland.

Guests thought they were coming over for a surprise party to celebrate Chan's graduation from UCSF medical school, where on May 14 she received her degree in pediatrics. However, Zuckerberg and Chan had been planning the wedding for more than four months, according to a source authorized by the couple.

Zuckerberg designed Chan's wedding ring, a simple ruby sparkler, himself.

Janet Jackson Niples slip out at the Super Bowl halftime show

Top CBS executives approved a musical skit where Janet Jackson would expose her breast during the MTV-produced Super Bowl half-time concert, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
“The decision to go forward went to the very top of the network,” a well-placed source explained from New York.
The groundbreaking scene came during the most-watched television broadcast of the year — and during the dinner hour for the nation’s west coast viewers.
Officially, CBS drew distance from the show: “CBS deeply regrets the incident that occurred during the Super Bowl halftime show,” the network said in a release. “We attended all rehearsals throughout the week and there was no indication that any such thing would happen. The moment did not conform to CBS broadcast standards and we would like to apologize to anyone who was offended.”

CBS’s main New York switchboard was immediately bombarded with complaints about the stunt, network sources said late Sunday.
The NFL claimed outrage over the stunt:
Statement by NFL Executive Vice President Joe Browne regarding the Super Bowl halftime show: “We were extremely disappointed by elements of the MTV-produced Halftime show. They were totally inconsistent with assurances our office was given about the show. It’s unlikely that MTV will produce another Super Bowl halftime.”

Frankly, I wish they’d just cancel these idiotic halftime spectacles. I can’t recall one of them that was enjoyable. Janet Jackson hasn’t had a hit record since Michael was black and Justin Timberlake is, as best I can tell, famous mainly for once having dated Britney Spears.
Update (1012 2-2): Timberlake’s take that this was an accident is rather absurd, unless we’re to believe Jackson routinely wears pasties under her clothing.

Timberlake said the flash was unintentional, calling the incident a “wardrobe malfunction.”
“I am sorry that anyone was offended,” Timberlake said in a statement. “It was not intentional and is regrettable.”
While CBS pleaded ignorance, Jackson had hinted last week that she was planning something outrageous.
A Jan. 28 story on MTV’s Web site promised “shocking moments” during her performance. MTV, which produced the halftime show, is owned by Viacom, CBS’s parent company.

Hoffman latest celebrity hero after saving jogger in London

A London lawyer has credited actor Dustin Hoffman for saving his life when he suffered a heart attack while jogging in Hyde Park.
Sam Dempster, 27, told Britain's Sun Tuesday that Hoffman came to his aid when he collapsed in the park 10 days ago, and called emergency services.
"I have no memory of what happened. The paramedics told me I had been saved by Dustin Hoffman. It's unbelievable," Dempster was quoted as saying.
Paramedics told the newspaper that the Rain Man star, 74, called emergency services and tended to Dempster as he waited for them to arrive. Hoffman, who has a home nearby, left only after they had re-started Dempster's heart.
Hoffman's Los Angelesbased representative confirmed the account.
Hoffman is the latest celebrity turned Good Samaritan in recent weeks.
Black Swan actress Mila Kunis cared for a man who had a seizure while working at her L.A. home last weekend, TMZ.com reported.
Grey's Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey helped to pry a teen from a car wreck in Malibu last month and actor Ryan Gosling stopped a British woman from being hit by a car in Manhattan in April.

‘Bold and the Beautiful’ star opens up about her sexuality

Beloved U.S. soap star Joanna Johnson has become the latest celebrity to come out as a lesbian.
The longtime The Bold and the Beautiful star has come out of the closet in a revealing new interview with America’s TV Guide magazine, admitting she never thought she’d be happy as a gay woman.
Johnson, who played doomed heroine Caroline Spencer and her identical twin Karen on the long-running daytime soap series, tells the publication she kept her sexuality secret for two decades because she was worried she “wouldn’t be employable as an actress” if the truth was revealed.
She says, “I had to deal with a lot of self-loathing. After I started playing Karen, I remember doing a fantasy scene that showed what life would have been like if (TV sister) Caroline had not died of cancer. She was married to Ridge (Ronn Moss) and had two kids and a wonderful life. When we finished shooting, I ran to my dressing room and just cried and cried because I knew I was never going to have that kind of life.”
But she insists she is very happy as club promoter Michelle Agnew’s partner. The couple has two kids.
Johnson admits she felt compelled to come out by the ongoing storyline on The Bold and the Beautiful, in which her character Karen is married to Crystal Chappell’s character Dani.
She adds, “Times have certainly changed. I guess that’s why I’m ready to open up. It feels weird and wrong to play this revelation about Karen’s life and not talk about my own.
“I used to hang out with (famous lesbians) Ellen DeGeneres, k.d. lang and Melissa Etheridge back in the day and thought it was so beautiful they were out, even though I didn’t have the nerve… I’m not anywhere near as famous as those ladies, but I guess it’s my turn to do my little part. It’s time to live a fully authentic life.”
